SPORTIVNY PRESS RUSSIAN WEIGHTLIFTING LIBRARY

The texts of the Russian Weightlifting Library can be loosely classified into four groups:

1 - compilations of articles on a variety of weighting subjects
  2 - general weightlifting books
  3 - weightlifting technique
4 - strength training for all sports and training principles for all sports

The Weightlifting Yearbooks make-up the books in group 1. These books are compilations of articles from Soviet weightlifting specialists on weightlifting technique, training methods, nutrition, speed-strength for weightlifting, new training devices, and more. Each yearbook is different, the latest text does not out-date the material in the previous, because new articles appear each year from different authors and the "new" does not mean previous material is incorrect.

The general weightlifting texts of group 2 present an overview of the weightlifting training experience. They cover correct technique, training methods, recuperation, theory of training and technique, etc. The Roman book focuses more on training methods, learning and execution of correct technique, as does the Medvedyev books. The Laputin book looks into managing a lifter's overall training, but also covers nutrition and recuperation.

The weightlifting technique books in group 3 primarily emphasize evaluation and learning of correct technique. These books demonstrate the necessity of correct evaluation of technique to the lifter, the importance of which cannot be overstated.

The strength training and training principles for all sports books in group 4 by Verkhoshansky delve into the theory and practical application of the current trends in sport training. The importance of strength training and the specific nature of the methods, peculiar to each type of sport, are emphasized in the strength training text. Important considerations for planning the long term preparation of athletes, the specificity of the long term adaptations peculiar to each type of sport are the focus of the "Programming" book.
